AP Testing

Taking the Advanced Placement (AP) exams is an important part of all AP courses. Academy of Holy Angels requires all students to take the AP exam for their AP class(es). Scoring well on an AP exam can earn students college credit or an advanced placement in the college curriculum. This varies from college to college and is determined by each institution. Most colleges and universities have this information posted on their website.

This is a reminder that if your son or daughter has an AP class, he/she will be taking an AP test in May. The cost for each test is $60.00 and is collected for most students via TADS in January. The only exception to the TADS collection process is for International Students. They must work/pay directly with/to the business office c/o Nancy Cullen (612-798-2615). Nancy's office is in the business area on 2nd floor administrative wing. Collections need to be completed by March 1st.

(Please note: this does not apply to Pre-AP courses). Pre AP courses are not AP courses and do not have national exams in the spring.

Please do not schedule college visits or vacations during the first two full weeks in May for your AP student scholar here at AHA. Thank you.

Tips for AP Testing

As we approach the testing week, here are some essential reminders for students:

  1. Students need to be waiting in line by the testing site by 7:40 (or 11:40 for afternoon tests). Actual testing begins at 7:45 am and 11:45 am. Students should leave their backpacks and belongings in their locker, unless noted below.
  2. Cell phones are prohibited…tell your students not to bring them. Proctors will double check the day of the test.
  3. Students need to bring a black pen in addition to pencils. Bring more than one pencil.
  4. Keep snacks small and clean. Students will be given a break in the middle for stretching and bathroom use, etc. They may bring a small snack for themselves if desired, but snacks and drinks must be small and left on the side table. Water may be kept on the floor under their table.
  5. Students are expected to be in attendance for the test even if they have conflicting extra-curricular activities. Every student in every AP class is scheduled to test (AP Spanish is the only exception due to it being a four-year preparation period).
  6. Students cannot forgo the test in favor of a softball game/tournament or similar event.
  7. Students who do not show up for the test forfeit the opportunity to test.
  8. Students may be out of uniform for the testing day. Remind them to bring a sweater as it may be cold in the testing room.
  9. Students who have consecutive tests within a two day period may be allowed to not attend the remaining classes following or preceding an AP test on those days, if they bring a note from their parents allowing this.
